A man is facing a manslaughter charge after police say he drove over a man who was injured during a fight on the Bali beach.
It happened at a beach near the resort of Kuta, where locals said a fight between locals and a group of tourists had escalated to the point where one of them was taken to hospital with head and chest injuries.
Kuta Police spokesman Cesar Hladi said the man, who was identified as 29-year-old Youssef Kabbani, was charged with manslaughter on Wednesday.
“He was not wearing a seat belt and it is alleged he was driving in a reckless manner,” Hlabi said.
Kabbani is due in court later this month.
The Bali Police Department is asking anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
“The victim suffered head and body injuries and his injuries were serious,” Hlani said.
Police are also seeking information on any possible witnesses.
“We need to be able to collect information to make an arrest and bring the perpetrator to justice,” Hlaidi said.
The man is being held in police custody and is due to appear in court in January.
