Robert DeNiro says he is “not surprised” Donald Trump “took the country for granted” when he became president, and believes the current administration is not doing enough to support the American people.
“I don’t believe that President Trump was taken for granted.
He is a visionary and he knows what he is doing,” DeNire said Thursday during an interview with CNBC.
“The question is how do you make it sustainable?”
DeNiro also took a swipe at the current Republican administration, accusing it of a “cavalier, more cynical approach” toward the environment.
“There are some things that have been done that were absolutely brilliant and noble.
But you have a cavalier, less cynical approach,” De Nire said.
“There are many things that are going on, which is the problem.
We’ve got to figure out how to keep going.”
De Niro said he was not surprised Trump won the election because of his “confidence and his ability to connect with the American public.”
“He knew how to connect,” De Niets said.
De Nire also said he does not believe Trump’s inauguration was “the moment for a new Republican Party.”
“It’s not that there wasn’t a new GOP party.
It’s just that they didn’t go out there and get it together,” De Nuis said.”
They have to learn how to go out and make this work.”
