The country will be the first to get the green light to register its IoT projects, the government said in a press release.
India plans to establish its first “Internet-of-Things” registration center in India’s capital, New Delhi.
The move is expected to help India connect to the world of Internet, especially through a decentralized and blockchain-based infrastructure.
India’s digital economy is in its infancy, with the country only having a handful of telecom companies and Internet service providers.
The government is hoping that the registration center will be able to help bridge that gap.
According to the release, the center will work with Indian government agencies to establish a digital infrastructure that can be used to register, manage and distribute IoT projects.
The central government will also set up a digital asset registry for IoT projects to facilitate international trade and commerce.
The registration center is expected for completion by March.
In addition to the registry, the Internet of Things will also include a central registry that will allow companies to register IoT devices and services.
India will also begin issuing certificates for IoT devices, a move that will pave the way for a decentralized registry.
“India is a pioneer in this field.
With its unique regulatory structure, it is an ideal place to join a global, interoperable, blockchain-powered ecosystem,” India’s IT and IT Services Minister Rajeev Shukla said in the release.
